Maybe I was reading you backwards. You're saying that critical opinion TOWARD Emigre changed: Emigre began getting favorable notices from people who formerly denigrated it? (How I was reading it: the writers and critics IN Emigre did an about face, to which I'd reply: Huh?)

Now they're the first to celebrate what they once questioned in a negative tone. That's how I read reactions to it back in the day, though I could be wrong as a lot of time has passed.
