Some people will follow anyone that chooses to follow them on Facebook, but when it comes to Twitter its a different story. They only follow people they know. Sure when they tweet something a lot of people that they're not following may hear about something, but.. Okay, I'm not sure where I'm going with this but you do make a good observation.

Although it's not always the case. When you share something with your friends on facebook, or via email, the audience is specifically defined. Broadcasting something on twitter means your followers (typically not defined by you) will see it and it will likely be retweeted to many other people you don't know.
