I am currently working on developing a FB application and my drawings look something like the first two photos, but much much worse so far. 🙂

I don’t have all the answers to that yet. We are way too early in the game not to explore options though. If you don’t like the idea of any app, so be it. Most apps from magazines are essentially pdfs after the magazine has been printed. This one is different in that we’re taking digital content and placing it in a better context for a tablet. HTML 5 and Sencha Touch are great options. It just depends on the strategy of the product. In this instance it made sense to publish it the way we did.

I do have to question the logic of building of a ‘Forbes Photos and Videos’ iPad app. Who is the audience for this app? Do we imagine people are going to download multiple apps for each magazine they read? There is already a great mechanism for displaying photos, text and videos on multiple devices – it’s called the internet. I think this content could be shown equally as well through a website designed with the iPad in mind.

The problem is that the iPad is a completely new device category and is essentially requiring that we rebuild the web in order to accommodate it. I just question the amount of time and effort spent building iPad specific apps.
