Walking to Work Today Mashup in Germany

Walking to work today

#Walkingtoworktoday has been an ongoing experiment for a couple months now. There really isn’t an end goal aside from sharing a pov as someone walks to work. For more information about what #walkingtowork today is, please visit my post Experimenting with Fragmented Medias while #walkingtoworktoday. The way that I set it up was that it was open ended that people could essentially do what ever they wanted to make it their own. In turn by sharing a couple simple keywords that collection could grow.

So I was pleasantly surprised to see a post from Markus Reuter talking about a map mashup about #walkingtoworktoday that he created with Jan Oelze. This is how they describe what they did to make the map. “The pictures with the tag “walkingtoworktoday” are pulled automatically from my flickr account and presented on the map via geotagging. And with the help of a yahoo pipe and twitterfeed new photos are also published on twitter automatically.” This is exactly the unexpected stuff that I hoped would eventually happen. If this is the kind of thing that interests you, please email me so we can figure out a collaboration.

Wow, I'm glad you like it. Thanks for the link. I hope that many more people will contribute. It is a great idea.

    Hi Michael,

The map and google mashup they have used wasn't created by them. It was created by a bunch of guys at iMapFlickr. Their map is really good example what can be done, but they hid the iMapFlickr logo and credits. It's also hiding a link to the full screen version of the map which would work amazingly with this idea – (full screen link) http://imapflickr.com/a66099/large.aspx.

    Hi Colin—

Thanks for the fyi, if what you're saying is true I'm sorry that they hid that info. There really was no need to do that. In any case I'm going to take a closer look at your service for my own needs. iMapFlickr looks like something I could use in a number of places.

    Hi Michael,

Yeah, iMapFlickr is a really good tool if you use Flickr a lot. We have some high profile people using iMapFlickr all around the world – my favourite being MLAPA's implementation @ http://www.mlapa.org/map/. Hopefully Markus Reuter and Jan Oelze put back the creds as this is as you put “the unexpected stuff” we have been finding people using our mashup, and using it well.

So if you want to see more head over to http://imapflickr.com, it's completely free!! And see what Flickr said about it in their App Garden http://www.flickr.com/services/apps/72157617732

    Cheers

I am sorry Colin. It is not my fault. Like I wrote in my post. I dind't do the technical stuff. I just had the idea. I will change that the creds will be seen as fast as I can! I am really sorry for that.
